Great French composers such as César Franck, Léo Delibes and Gabriel Fauré created small masterpieces towards the end of the 19th century, which immediately captivate with their wit and charm. Rashly classified as incidental works by music researchers, most of the songs have not yet been recorded on sound carriers and have received little attention from choirs. However, this is likely to change after this inclusion. In the recording of La Choraline, the girls' choir of the Théâtre La Monnaie in Brussels, Guy Penson provides an authentic fin de siècle sound on an Erard grand piano from 1892.
