Surprises from Royer! And from Rousset! After two recordings of harpsichord pieces by Savoy-born composer Pancrace Royer, Christophe Rousset - this time as conductor - turns to the composer's orchestral suites. These were taken from Royer's operatic works and, being recorded here for the first time for the most part, reveal a new facet of the composer. One can discover his gift for refinement and lyricism and, especially in the dance movements, his unique sense of harmony and fine use of orchestral contrasts as well as an almost whimsical rhetoric of the unexpected.
