Bach's orchestral suites are summit works of their kind and the master himself obviously saw it this way, as he performed the suites already written in Weimar and Köthen later with the student Collegium musicum in Leipzig. Here, however, he revised them and even made drastic changes to the instrumentation in the case of the third and fourth suites. For their recording, Paul Dombrecht and Il Fondamento have once used the little-known original versions from Weimar and Köthen.
