‘Art is communication. The absolute originality of language is the enemy of communication.’ This is how the Austro-Hungarian composer Ivan Eröd described his reasons for returning from free dodecaphony to tonality, melody and form in 1968. ‘Language is consensus. The musical language is so, too’. • The works the Salzburg violinist Thomas Albertus Irnberger combines on this recording – the Violin Concerto op. 15, the two Sonatas for Violin and Piano op. 14 and op. 74 as well as the Three Pieces for Violin Solo op. 27 – are consequently characterized by an immediately comprehensible musical diction and a mainly cheerful and entertaining nature. In conjunction with the Israel Chamber Orchestra conducted by Martin Sieghart and with Michael Korstick on the piano, Irnberger finds the musical means to allow the listener to communicate with Ivan Eröd.
