The 19th century's fascination with all things Eastern produced a real artistic excitement. This enthusiasm had a deep and permanent influence on the West, especially in its poetic and literary production. Notably, works by the great Persian poet Hafez inspired Goethe in the creation of one of his last works, the West-Eastern Divan. It is this seemingly unlikely poetic connection that inspired Abed Azrie's latest musical opus, Hafez and Goethe / Divan, which explores this surprising artistic bridge between cultures from a decidedly 21st Century perspective.
