In the course of the 19th century the transverse flute underwent a constant change in instrument construction. Jean-Louis Tulou (1786-1865) was one of the flute makers and composing virtuosos who influenced this development at the beginning. Sarah van Cornewal has put together an attractive programme here with works by him and some of his pupils, which could certainly have been heard in one of the sophisticated, upper middle-class Parisian salons. The focus here is always on the desire to please, which is achieved effortlessly thanks to the outstanding performers on their historical instruments.
