The brilliant career of Heinrich Isaac was marked by appointments with the Medici in Florence and at the court of the emperor Maximilian I. in Vienna and Innsbruck respectively. A native Fleming, he can be considered one of the first European composers of the 16th century. His songs recorded here are characterized by an enormous range of moods and emotions, from the expression of deepest pain to the exuberant cheerfulness of Renaissance carnival.
