Handel's harpsichord works are characterized by formal freedom and rhetorical mastery, which not least reflect the improvisational talent for which he was so famous. His suites and pieces recorded here are, however, also a skilful amalgam of French and German suite traditions, which he knew how to spice up with Italian influences. The Brazilian Cristiano Holtz proves to be the best conceivable advocate for the music of the baroque cosmopolitan.
