The premiere of the work took place on 28 February 1875 in the Norwegian capital Christiania, today Oslo, within the framework of a performance of the play. Neither the poet nor the composer were present, they were surprised by the triumphant success that the combination of the "dramatic poem" and its illustrating music could reap from the audience • This recording presents on two CDs the entire stage music of Peer Gynt: Besides the captivating sound paintings of the orchestral pieces (who doesn't know the "Morgenstimmung" or "Anitras Tanz"), she also traces the course of the piece in vocal pieces, sung here in German.
