The aria of the Cold Genius from King Arthur's third act gained wide popularity among pop audiences in the late 1980s thanks to Klaus Nomi. Of course, this is not the only thing worth mentioning about this piece. Together with The Fairy Queen, King Arthur Purcell's best contribution to the specifically English genus of semi-opera is the Fairy Queen. For his recording, Hervé Niquet relies on the version of 1691, without any later additions, so it is only a CD. Of course this one is filled to the brim with the most beautiful music!
