Manfred Honeck takes the Vienna Symphony Orchestra on a musical journey through Austria. For over 40 years, the traditional TV Easter concert "Spring in Vienna" by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra has been one of the great highlights in the concert calendar of the Austrian capital • With renowned conductors and a colourful bouquet of sweeping melodies, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra drives out the winter and heralds the coming of the colourful new season in an atmospheric way. For the first time, the 2016 concert, which took place under the direction of Manfred Honeck in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, was also recorded for a CD release on the orchestra's own label • In addition to the third movement from Beethoven's Pastoral, the usual varied programme includes "Schmankerl" by Max Schönherr, Carl Michael Ziehrer and excerpts from Richard Strauss' rarely performed ballet "Schlagobers". The new release marks the eleventh release on the Vienna Symphony Orchestra's label, founded in 2012, and already the second recording with Manfred Honeck after a joint Johann Strauss programme.
